Common HRIS software features and options

Employee database – is a common feature with all HRIS software applications. They offer different options and features. The employee database will contain fields for most of the information you have in an employee file.

Payroll – Many of the HRIS software applications offer payroll as an option. The great benefit with this option is that HR and payroll data are contained in a single system.

Attendance – Attendance systems track accruals and provide automatic increases to accrual rate.

Time collection – There are a variety of ways to collect time data. The easiest is an online employee time sheet. The employee inputs the hours they worked and submits it online. Some systems the employee’s login, or clock in for the day. Another option is the actual use of time clocks, which integrate to the payroll software applications.

Training Management – Provides the ability to track basic training data. Tracks training required by job title.

Recruiting – Prospective applicants can apply positions directly on your company web site. All of this data is contained in a database that can be searched to determine who the most qualified person is.

Employee Self Service – Provides employees and/or managers with the ability to access and change data related to themselves or their employees online or through a company intranet. This data may include demographic detail or include more inclusive, time collection, training, attendance, performance management, and payroll information. When the employee makes a change, it may go through an approval process, where a manager may approve or deny the request.

Manager Self Service – This capability gives managers the ability to view data and change data if allowed.

Email Alerts – With these alerts, you are able to track a large number of important dates for your employees, which include birthdays, anniversary dates, review due dates, certification dates, training due dates.

Benefit Administration – With this data, HR departments are able to report on which employees have certain benefit options and what the costs are to employees or employer for those plans.

Position Control – HR systems track employee related data by an employee. Data related to training, pay, employee development, salary grade, job title and more are associated directly with the employee file.

Government Compliance – HR personnel typically track government compliance items, which include COBRA, OSHA, FMLA, and Affirmative Action reporting.

Report Generation – Report writer and includes a large number of standard reports you can use to track information within your HR system.

Ultimate Software is located in Weston, FL, has been in business for over 15 years, and has 1500 installs. Using platforms Windows and SQL, and can be purchased or hosted.

Ultimate Software’s UltiPro delivers out of the box functionality. UltiPros Web portal can serve as your company’s communications hub and the central gateway for business activities. UltiPro features include: payroll, attendance, training, employee self-service, Canadian, benefit open enrollment, applicant tracking, position control, online recruiting, email alerts, carrier connect, performance management and compensation, time collection
and succession planning.

After searching these different vendors, UltiPro website impressed me the most. In my opinion, UltiPro is a leader in the HRIS industry, they keep you up to date with their website information. All their company financial information is readily available on the site. Annual Reports, stock update with NASDAQ, the latest company news, shareholder info, etc. Anything you need or want to learn about this company is at your fingertips. You have Analysts contacts readily available complete with name, email and phone numbers.
