In many ways our Constitution is very remarkable. It is visionary, and based on reality and compromise. This visionary document set up rules for government in the 18th century and rules for changing it for government in the future. A lot of the Articles and Amendments in the Constitution deal with the reality of life in America today. The Constitution is based on compromise that protects the rights of the states and the people. It was good for the country when there were only 13 states and it is good for the country now that we have 50 states. And it can change as our country changes.
Many countries have previously invested or are still investing in a Communist government and economy. Communism is defined as “A theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members.” If a country decides to go on the path of Communism, it is a dark and dank road that can lead to turmoil, famine, and poverty. Human nature causes those in control to become power hungry, which is destructive to the country’s society. It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that your country will be different, but that is often only the first mistake on a downward spiral of poor decisions made by the leaders of the country as well as those inhabiting it. Many often ask the question, “Well why didn’t the people just overthrow the government?”, but what they don’t realize is that when an entire country has been oppressed in that manner, it’s nearly impossible to recover without help from a good leader in your governmental system or outside forces. Capitalism, on the other hand, is much more liberal, although it is far from perfect as well. It is defined as “An economic system based on a free market, open competition, profit motive and private ownership of the means of production”.
Since the creation of the United States Constitution in 1787, the system we call, our United States Government has existed. Created to balance a centralized and strong government, the U. S. Constitution has protected every American’s individual human right in possibly every facet of life. With this in mind, what about the rights of American businesses? Individual human rights versus the businesses rights? Alternatively, how the constitutional right affects a business? In today’s workplaces, businesses have to not only deal with protecting employees from harassment from other employees but also protect themselves from civil lawsuits that may arise because of harassment issues. Does the first amendment to the United States Constitution truly give people the right of free speech?
The Eighth Amendment in only three words imposes a constitutional limitation upon punishment: It cannot be “cruel and unusual.” What did the framers mean? The courts have interpreted the words “cruel and unusual” in a flexible and dynamic manner reflecting a evolving society. The Crime Act of 1790 mandated that a person be executed for Treason. Not only did you have to kill them; the body had to be mutilated. Mutilation of a corpse in itself is both cruel and unusual. At that time it was the Law, we don’t do that anymore, we have evolved. The eighth amendment has been affected more by the evolving change of society than any of the other Amendments. Even though we can see the evolving of societies common sense and decency where the eighth amendment is involved, society continues to show a primitive style of justice by using electrocution, the gas chamber and lethal injection as forms of executing the death penalty. These methods inflict pain and in some cases disfigurement and charring of a human body. I consider this the same as mutilating a body in 1790. We have known the outcome of an electrocution after the very first one was performed in 1889. And, the other two methods aforementioned are just as bad if not worst.
In 1919, Erle P. Halliburton established the new method of an oil well cementing company in Oklahoma City. This was the start to Halliburton’s extensive timeline. Today Halliburton provides services for the petroleum and energy industries (Business Source Complete, 1998). From 1994, the company’s revenue rose from $5.9 billion to $14.9 billion in 1999 (Bruno & Valette, 2001). During this time Dick Cheney was the CEO of the Halliburton organization. In this time the company’s overseas operation grew from 51% to 68% (Bruno & Valette, 2001). Mr. Cheney has receive must credit for this massive success.
“We the People of the United States, in Order to for a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United Stated Of America.” On September 17, 1787 thirty-nine men gathered in Philadelphia to sign their names on a document. A document that would bring forth more national growth and knowledge the world has ever witnessed. The Peoples intimate link to the thoughts and ideas of the Framers and the common citizen generate the kind of civic bond that is vital for good government. Sadly, today that link between citizen and Founder is less common and the systems that govern our country are becoming less equal in enforcing laws and consequences.
Imagine a world full of rampaging disease, sickly children and dying elderly; a place full of fractured bones, cancerous cells, deadly viral epidemics, and broken dreams. This place was made possible by the absence of healthcare. Healthcare is more than just paying taxes to “Uncle Sam” to help those less fortunate; it is more than medicinal discounts and cheap medical attention. Its helps prevent and control disease, save lives, and boost morale.
“There is a great exhalation of breath going on around the world. We’ve got a lot of damage to repair.” This are the words of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, which I believe best describe the expectations and the also the objectives of the new American President Barack Obama. There is no doubt that those, who followed the 2008 US Presidential Elections, have witnessed history in the making, because this event will not affect only the future of the US but also of the entire international scene.
Youth: Daniel Boone was born on October 22, 1734. Because the Gregorian calendar was adopted during Boone’s lifetime, his birth date is sometimes given as November 2, 1734 (the “New Style” date), although Boone used the October date. He was the sixth of eleven children in a family of Quakers. His father, Squire Boone, Sr. (1696–1765), had immigrated to Pennsylvania from the small town of Bradninch, Devon, England in 1713. Squire Boone’s parents George and Mary Boone followed their son to Pennsylvania in 1717. In 1720, Squire, who worked primarily as a weaver and a blacksmith, married Sarah Morgan (1700–1777), whose family members were Quakers from Wales, and settled in Towamencin Township, Pennsylvania in 1708. In 1731, the Boones built a log cabin in the Oley Valley, now the Daniel Boone Homestead in Berks County, Pennsylvania, where Daniel was born. His other siblings were Edward, Elizabeth, George, Hannah, Israel, Johnathan, Samuel, and Sarah Boone.
As the Baby Boomer generation continues to grow older, their concerns have shifted to their health, money and retirement. The days of wondering where their next vacation should be and whether their bonus check will be as much as they deserve are passing.
