It is a fact of life that more and more metropolitan people taking replacement of public transportations by the private cars as the main vehicles is the prevalent trend nowadays. It might pose a question whether government should decrease the fees of taking the public transportations, or that should be free. Here, I will discuss the pros and cons, as discussed below.
I concede that the government is on the correct side of this issue. After all, free public transportation is a good service to the poor who can not afford the fares and can only walk to the terminals. Also,
through the survey from the local governmental department, the worse phenomenon of traffic jam might take place in light of the increase using of private cars. Furthermore, the air pollution is mainly caused by the discharge from the private cars, whose amount is more than the standard level. Free public transportations could serve people use less private cars than before.
Nevertheless, the government makes the fees of public transportations free irrespective of whether these fees are the vital revenue for itself. That the revenue from public transportation is like the taxation is the indispensable earnings, which can be applied to address pressing social problems of the day, by establishing more public equipments, by developing the economy of the country, and so forth. There is another compelling reason that once most “blue-collars” take the public transportation and few of them use their own cars, it will cause a big chaos that hinders the normal routine of public transportation.
To sum up, above all the reasons above, there are both merits of two sides. I should strive to take the neutral position of this issue. Whether the public transportations should be free or not is to decide based on the governmental benefits and even the country’s benefits. What the government must do is make sure to find the most effective method to solve this problem.
